ANNOTATIONS
1. ALES valid score type is equal weight, GRE valid score type is quantitative.

4. At least one (1) reference letter. 

5. Letter of Intention in English, in addition to the Graduate School’s requirements, must also include following sections: 

(i) a web link to the candidate’s online CV, 
(ii) the candidate’s reasons for choosing graduate study at METU Department of Industrial Design, 
(iii) a brief description and reasoning for TWO DIFFERENT potential thesis topics. 
Candidates must write which of the Department’s academic staff, research area(s), center(s) and/or group(s) their potential thesis topics align with, by checking the Department’s website.

6. Master of Science application evaluation:

 50% ALES + 15% Bachelor’s degree CGPA + 15% Letter of Intention + 20% Interview.

7. Candidates with any Bachelor’s degree may apply: design research aptitude and suitability to the program will be determined through the evaluation process.

8. Although not compulsory, candidates are encouraged to demonstrate evidence of their design and/or design research capability through a portfolio. In this case, candidates can provide a web link to their online portfolio in the Letter of Intention.

9. PhD application evaluation: 

50% ALES + 5% Master’s degree CGPA + 25% Letter of Intention + 20% Interview.

10. Letter of Intention in English, in addition to the Graduate School’s requirements, must also include following sections:

(i) a web link to the candidate’s online CV, 
(ii) the candidate’s reasons for choosing doctoral study at METU Department of Industrial Design, and, 
(iii) a PhD research proposal between 1500 and 2000 words (excluding references).

The PhD research proposal section should cover the following headings in order: 
(a) background, 
(b) aim, scope and significance of the proposed study, including a statement on which of the Department’s academic staff, research area(s), center(s) and/or group(s) the proposed study aligns with (candidates must check the Department’s website), 
(c) a brief review of the related literature, 
(d) a statement explaining how the proposal is either different to, or builds upon, the candidate’s prior research, 
(e) list of references.

11. To apply to PhD, both undergraduate and graduate transcripts are required.

12. PhD on Bachelor application evaluation:

 50% ALES + 15% Bachelor’s degree CGPA + 15% Letter of Intention + 20% Interview.

13. Conditional acceptance is not allowed.
