ANNOTATIONS

1. Additional Condition for Application: [ALES + (*)CCGPA]/2 ≥ 75

ALES score type has to be quantitative.

Turkish Citizens' applications are evaluated according to ALES exam score. GRE*** scores of applicants with only a GRE score, are converted to ALES score.

(*) Cumulative GPA (CGPA) expressed in 4.00 scale is converted to 100 scale according to the conversion chart of YÖK (Higher Education Council of Turkey).

CCGPA: Converted CGPA according to YÖK chart. 

2. All announcements and communications regarding the application including the date for the interviews and scientific evaluation are carried out using the e-mail address of the applicant that is stated in the application.

Foreign applicants, who do not reside in Turkey at the time of the interview and scientific evaluation, should inform the department vice chair for academic affairs by e-mail immediately after the announcement of the results for further arrangements.

4. Two reference letters and a letter of intent are NECESSARY. Reference letters should be taken from the faculty of the department from which the applicant has graduated. Applications without two reference letters and a letter of intent, or with reference letters which were not taken from the faculty of the department from which the applicant has graduated will not be evaluated.

Letter of intent should also include information in detail about the graduated BSc program and university/faculty/department (evening education, type of scholarship, etc.). Reference letters should be comprehensive. In reference letters, detailed and justifying explanations related to the items evaluated in METU Recommendation for Graduate Study Form must be given by the recommender in the corresponding section of the form. "

5. Two reference letters and a letter of intent are NECESSARY. Reference letters should be taken from the faculty of the department from which the applicant has graduated. It is necessary that one of the reference letters must be taken from the applicants MSc thesis supervisor. Applications without two reference letters and a letter of intent, or with reference letters which were not taken from the faculty of the department from which the applicant has graduated, or without a reference letter which is taken from the applicant's MSc thesis supervisor will not be evaluated.

Letter of intent should also include information in detail about graduated BSc and MSc programs and university/faculty/department (evening education, type of scholarship, etc.). In addition, letter of intent should include MSc thesis title and contact information of the thesis supervisor. Reference letters should be comprehensive. In reference letters, detailed and justifying explanations related to the items evaluated in METU Recommendation for Graduate Study Form must be given by the recommender in the corresponding section of the form."

6. In MSc applications, submission of the undergraduate transcript is a MUST. If applicable, all transcripts of previously registered/dismissed/own will registration withdrawn and/or graduated BSc, MSc, and Ph.D. programs should be handed-in. Applications which do not include the above mentioned necessary transcripts will not be evaluated.

7. In Ph.D. applications, submission of both undergraduate and graduate transcripts is a MUST. If applicable, transcripts of previously registered/dismissed/own will registration withdrawn and/or graduated BSc, MSc, and/or Ph.D. programs should be handed-in. Applications which do not include the above-mentioned necessary transcripts will not be evaluated.

8. As a separate section of the letter of intent, details like university/department/date/ etc. should clearly be indicated and presented if:

I. currently registered to a graduate program of METU or other universities,

II. dismissed from an undergraduate or a graduate program of METU or other universities,

III. have own will registration withdrawn from an undergraduate or a graduate program of METU or other universities.

9. As a separate section of the letter of intent, details like university/department/date/etc. should clearly be indicated and presented if:

I. currently registered to a PhD program of METU or other universities,

II. dismissed from a BSc, MSc or PhD program of METU or other universities,

III. have own will registration withdrawn from a BSc, MSc or PhD program of METU or other universities.

10. Evaluation of applicants will be made in two stages.

During the first stage of the evaluation, ALES score, CCGPA, scientific evaluation*, letters of reference, and the letter of intent will be evaluated.

(*) Applicant's education history, academic achievement and background are also evaluated for Masters Program with Thesis.

After the first stage of the evaluation, applicants who are found eligible will be invited for the second stage of the evaluation. At the second stage, chosen fields of study will also be considered during evaluation. 

11. Evaluation of applicants will be made in two stages.

After the first stage of the evaluation, applicants who are found eligible will be invited for the second stage of the evaluation. At the second stage, chosen research fields will also be considered during evaluation.

12. Students accepted after the overall evaluation process, by nature will be a member of the research team of their thesis supervisors. They will share the common responsibility with the other student members of the team. Trouble-free progress of the research projects conducted by the research team, acquiring the expected results with ultimate success, together with being on time without any delays are the indispensable conditions. It is a MUST that the students of the research team should have a successful academic background (METU is a research university). Besides having a successful academic background, knowing what he/she wants, being diligent and meticulous, and the last but not the least, being perseverant and completing a self-started or assigned work without any delays and without leaving it undone are the major necessary criteria, which are as important as a successful academic background. In your letter of intent, you are also required to explain how you fulfilled/conformed to these criteria. If you wish you can tell about your specific experience.

13. In Article 12 - Item 5 of Rules and Regulations Governing Graduate Studies of METU, it is stated that 'Students who have applied to and earned the right for registration to a program with false or misleading declarations and documents will not be registered and legal action will be taken against them.' ***Click here to check the ALES-GRE conversion chart
